ChatGPT Prompts for Social Media Posts: 10 That Don't Sound Like AI, AI Prompt Agent featured graphi

You can tell an AI-written social post from across the room. It opens with "In today's fast-paced world", uses five emojis per line, and ends with "What do you think? Let me know in the comments! 🚀". People scroll right past.

The problem isn't ChatGPT. It's that most people give it nothing to work with. In this guide you'll get 10 prompts for social media posts, captions and planning that produce content you'd actually be happy to post, plus a few rules that remove that "AI voice".

Why your AI social posts sound robotic

ChatGPT fills gaps with the most average version of whatever you ask. If you don't tell it your audience, voice, platform and goal, you get average. Three changes fix most of it:

  1. Give it your voice. Paste 2-3 posts you've written and say "match this tone and sentence length".

  2. Ban the clichés. Literally list phrases and habits you don't want: "no 'game-changer', no emojis at the start of lines, no rhetorical questions at the end".

  3. Give it a real idea. AI is great at shaping an idea, weak at having one about your life. Bring the story, opinion or lesson; let it do the formatting.

Planning prompts

1. A 7-day content calendar

Adapted from one of our best-selling prompts.

Act as a social media strategist. Create a 7-day content calendar for [brand/creator] on [platform].
Audience: [who]. Goal this week: [awareness / sales / engagement]. Content pillars: [3 topics].
For each day give: post format (carousel, reel, single image, text), hook line, 2-sentence caption idea, and a call to action. Mix educational, personal and promotional posts (no more than 1 promo). Format as a table.

2. Content pillars for your niche

I create content about [niche] for [audience]. My goal is [goal].
Suggest 4 content pillars that fit my audience. For each pillar: why it matters to them, 5 specific post ideas, and the best format for each idea.

Writing prompts

3. Captions in your voice

Here are 3 captions I've written that performed well: [paste].
Write 5 new captions for a post about [topic] in exactly the same voice, sentence length and emoji use. Start each with a strong first line that works without "see more". No hashtags in the text.

4. Hooks that stop the scroll

Write 10 first lines for a post about [topic] for [audience] on [platform]. Each under 12 words. Use a mix of: specific number, contrarian opinion, mistake, mini story, and direct question. Avoid clichés like "Let's dive in" and "game-changer".

5. Turn one idea into posts for every platform

Here is one idea: [idea, lesson or story].
Rewrite it as: 1) an Instagram caption (under 150 words), 2) a LinkedIn post (short paragraphs, under 200 words), 3) an X post (under 280 characters), 4) a 30-second TikTok script with on-screen text. Keep the core message identical, adapt tone to each platform.

6. A carousel that teaches something

Create a 7-slide Instagram/LinkedIn carousel about [topic] for [audience].
Slide 1: a hook title (max 8 words). Slides 2-6: one point each, a short headline plus 1-2 lines of explanation. Slide 7: summary and a call to action to [save / follow / visit link]. Add a design note for each slide.

7. A promo post that doesn't feel pushy

Write a social post promoting [product/offer] to [audience]. Start with the problem they have, not the product. Show one concrete before/after. Mention the offer only in the last 2 lines with a clear call to action. Under 120 words, no hype words.

Engagement prompts

8. Replies to comments

Here are comments on my post: [paste comments].
Write a short, natural reply to each (under 25 words), in a friendly tone. Where possible, ask a follow-up question or add a useful detail. Don't repeat the same phrasing twice.

9. Hashtags without spam

Suggest 15 hashtags for a [platform] post about [topic] for [audience], grouped into: 5 broad, 5 niche, 5 very specific. I'll check them myself before using. Don't include banned or irrelevant tags.

Tip: hashtag usefulness changes over time and by platform, so always search a tag on the app before using it.

10. Post ideas from questions people ask

My audience is [who] and my niche is [niche]. List 20 questions this audience commonly asks or struggles with. For each, suggest a post format and a one-line hook that answers it.

A simple weekly workflow (about one hour)

Prompts work best inside a routine. Here's a lightweight one you can repeat every week:

  1. Monday, 15 minutes: plan. Run prompt 1 with this week's goal. Keep the ideas you like, swap the rest.

  2. Monday, 20 minutes: draft. For each idea, write one honest sentence about the point you want to make. Then run prompt 3 to turn it into a caption in your voice.

  3. Tuesday, 15 minutes: repurpose. Pick the strongest idea and run prompt 5 to adapt it for your other platforms.

  4. Daily, 5 minutes: engage. Use prompt 8 when comments pile up, but personalise any reply to a regular follower.

  5. Friday, 5 minutes: review. Note which hooks got the most saves or replies and paste those into next week's prompts as examples.

Over a few weeks, the examples you feed back in get better, and so does the output. That feedback loop matters more than any single "perfect" prompt.

Rules for social posts that sound human

Write the first line yourself

Even if AI drafts the rest, the first line is your voice. Make it specific to you.

Cut 20%

AI drafts are usually too long. Delete filler sentences, especially the first and last.

Never fake proof

Don't let AI invent testimonials, results or numbers. If you share results, use real ones. It's both honest and, in many places, a legal requirement for advertising.

Label AI visuals where needed

If you post AI-generated images or video, check your platform's labelling rules. TikTok, Instagram and YouTube all have policies for realistic AI content.

FAQ

What is the best ChatGPT prompt for social media posts?

A prompt that includes your audience, platform, goal, voice examples and a format. Prompt 1 (content calendar) and prompt 3 (captions in your voice) are the most useful starting points.

How do I make ChatGPT posts not sound like AI?

Paste examples of your own writing, ban clichés explicitly, bring a real idea or story, and edit the first line yourself.

Can I use ChatGPT for Instagram captions?

Yes. Ask for several options in your voice, with a strong first line, and keep hashtags separate so you can check them.

Do these prompts work for LinkedIn and TikTok?

Yes. Specify the platform in the prompt; prompt 5 adapts one idea to Instagram, LinkedIn, X and TikTok at once.

Should I disclose that I use AI?

For text posts it's usually your choice. For realistic AI-generated images or video, follow the platform's labelling rules.
